Tissue Pouch Using Pre-Quilted Fabric (Quilt Sandwiches)

Tissue Pouch Using Pre-Quilted Fabric (Quilt Sandwiches)

Materials

Pre-quilted fabric (Quilt Sandwich)
I couldn't find what I was looking for in the local fabric shop, so I created my own Quilt Sandwiches. The design I used to create the quilt sandwich for this project can be found here: Click here to see the set
I used 2 x the 6x10" designs

Cutting Mat
Scissors or Rotary Cutter
Narrow Ribbon - make 2 bows
Cut 2 pieces of 1" wide bias binding about 12.5" long each

Method

Cut out 2 pieces that measures 5.5" x 9.5". Now cut one of the 5.5"x9.5" in half along the length. You should have 2 x 2.75"x4.75" pieces and 1 x 5.5"x9.5"

Now to add the bias binding. Pin the bias binging to a long edge on the narrow strips. Sew in place. I like to use a bias binding foot to do this. It makes it so much easier. If you don't have one, just open the bias binding as shown in the photo. Stitch along the crease, then fold the bias over the raw edge and sew in place. For an "invisible" finish, do this part with hand stitching.

Now that your two pieces have the bias binding finish, place the pieces next to each other and using a zig zag stitch on your sewing machine, stitch the bias binding closed by 2" at each end. This creates a neat opening in the middle and your tissues won't fall out.
Now to add the final piece. Take the 5.5"x9.5" piece and pin it to the piece we have just finished, right sides together. Using a 1/4" foot, sew a 1/4" seam right round. Once this is done, you can either serge the raw edges or you can just trim them with pinking shears. Trim the corners if necessary!
Turn right side out. Stitch on the bows and that's it. Your tissue purse is ready to use. These are really quick to create and make for lovely gifts or stocking fillers.
